Rising reggae act John Obinna Ibegbulem aka President Son has released two new albums, “Rasta Man No Violence” and “Straight Out of Oklahoma,” as part of his mission to revive Nigeria’s fading reggae culture.

The simultaneous release comes years after he vowed to rewrite the story of reggae in Nigeria with his debut single “President Son.”

The first album, “Rasta Man No Violence,” blends reggae with indigenous sounds and carries messages of love, peace and unity. The second, “Straight Out of Oklahoma,” is a motivational project inspired by his life on the road, urging young people to stay focused on their dreams.

“That’s why I think it’s better to drop them the same day, the same time,” he said, noting that the two bodies of work complement each other.

Both albums are streaming on digital platforms.

Nollywood actress Chidinma Okolie gives  back To her Festac community

0

Nollywood actress and producer, Chidinma Okolie, has announced the launch of her Non-Governmental Organisation, the Chidinma Okolie Empowerment Foundation, to give back to her community in Festac Town, Lagos State.

Okolie, who began her acting career in 2013, said her love for acting and the platform Nollywood gave her to showcase her talent inspired her journey.

She has featured in several movies including “Twins But Not Brothers”, “My Mother’s Head,” “Dirty Princess”, “Sisterhood of Darkness”, “Hammer House of Horror,” “Royal Child,” “Ofunwa The Only Child” and “Offering of Blood” among others.

Speaking on her motivation for establishing the NGO, the actress said she returned from a vacation abroad and decided to use her platform and resources to support the elderly, widows and widowers in her community.

According to her, the Foundation is built on the mantra, “Empowering Life One Step At A Time.”

“I have passion for elderly people, widows and widowers because aging is a great gift from God and we don’t really celebrate our elderly people,” she said.

“Also, doing life alone without your partner is not easy when death takes them away from you. The pressure of raising the kids or even living without that one person you planned your life with is a pain so many people can never understand.”

Okolie said her personal experience shaped her decision, noting that she lost her father at a young age and watched her mother raise three daughters. The Chidinma Okolie Empowerment Foundation, she added, will focus on celebrating and supporting the elderly, widows, widowers and aged couples in Amuwo Odofin and beyond.

DJ XO blends music, poetry, nightlife In Lagos at ‘Rhythm & Sip’

0
The intersection of music, spoken word and contemporary nightlife took centre stage recently when DJ XO, whose real name is Okechukwu Okezue, hosted Rhythm & Sip, a live DJ set and performing arts event that brought together different strands of creative expression.
Staged at Jaymoni Studio, Oral Estate, Lekki, the event offered an evening of music, poetry and live performances, creating a platform where the energy of the DJ booth met the expressive power of the performing arts.
With an atmosphere shaped by rhythm, audience engagement and the familiar appeal of Afrobeats, Amapiano and 3-Step music, Rhythm & Sip explored the possibilities of a nightlife experience that went beyond the conventional club setting.
Among the performers who contributed to the programme were hypeman Ruby and recording artist Nuel Se7en. Their appearances added variety to the evening, complementing the musical selections with live entertainment and performance.
Hypeman Ruby brought the energy associated with audience interaction and performance-led entertainment, while Nuel Se7en represented the event’s musical dimension. Poetry also featured in the programme, introducing a more reflective and expressive element to the night.
The combination of these art forms underscored the event’s central appeal: entertainment can be both an avenue for social connection and a space for creative expression.
For DJ XO, the event represented an opportunity to bring different audiences together through music while giving other performers room to showcase their talents. His role as host and DJ placed him at the centre of the experience, connecting the performances and musical sets into a shared programme.
The choice of contemporary African dance sounds also reflected the continued influence of Afrobeats and Amapiano on nightlife culture. These genres have become important features of social entertainment, offering DJs opportunities to create connections across audiences and musical tastes.
However, the inclusion of poetry and live artistic performances gave Rhythm & Sip a broader identity. The gathering also highlighted the value of independent creative platforms in providing opportunities for emerging and established performers to reach audiences outside traditional concert formats.
As creative events increasingly experiment with the boundaries between music, theatre, spoken word and nightlife, Rhythm & Sip offered an example of how these disciplines can share the same space.
For DJ XO and the performers involved, the evening was an opportunity to celebrate sound, performance and the communal experience of live entertainment.
The event’s broader significance lies in this meeting of disciplines: a reminder that music-led gatherings can provide more than a soundtrack for a night out. They can also create room for artistic discovery, collaboration and new ways of experiencing contemporary African creativity.

It’s curated and produced by June Creative Art Advisory,JCAA, and will run until December 31, 2026, with free admission for members of the public.

The governor said,“our ambition is for ICAAF (also called Visual Arts Centre) to advance cultural education, encourage creative enterprise, attract visitors and strengthen Kwara’s place in Nigeria’s cultural and creative landscape. Prison Helped Shape My Life, Says Blessing CEO As She Recounts Kirikiri Experience

0
  • Self-acclaimed relationship expert Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, has opened up about her life-changing experience while in custody at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, Apapa, Lagos.
Blessing CEO said spending five months in prison helped shape her life, faith and perspective.
Speaking in an emotional viral video with Prophetess Belemzy shared on Instagram on Tuesday, October 27, the controversial relationship expert said she embraced Christ while in prison and received a new lease of life.
She said before she was transferred to prison, she spent between 21 and 24 days in EFCC custody, where she maintained a consistent prayer routine – morning, afternoon and evening.
Even on the day she faced a three-count charge in court, she said her posture before God was one of surrender: “Let your will be done.”
Blessing CEO said pastors had told her for years that she was destined for ministry work, though she never took the warnings seriously.
“Growing up, they’d tell me, ‘Blessing, you would do ministry.’ I’ll just ignore,” she said.
She said she began to crumble after a week inside prison. Frustration took hold and she eventually stopped praying.
“At a time, I was upset with God. I refused to pray. I believed He ignored me while I was in there,” she said.
Her ordeal stretched across five months, with three separate EFCC cases before three different judges. She noted that even after bail conditions were met, delays continued to push back her release. Throughout that period, she said her family never gave up on her. Her mother borrowed money and was reportedly prepared to sell her possessions to secure her freedom, while her brother and friends were also working behind the scenes.
While in prison, she said the narrative was that she had been abandoned, but people who loved her were fighting for her the entire time. Looking back, she said the experience left her with two things she did not have before: patience and inner strength.
“I learnt to be patient,” she said.
Speaking on what comes next, Blessing said: “Come on this journey with me. The journey of Jesus Christ. It’s going to be loud, very loud,” signalling that her public voice, long associated with relationship advice and controversy, is now pointing in a new direction.
“Prison helped isolate me, reflect on my life. Thinking of where I got it wrong. God also blessed me with a wonderful friend I met in prison. Prison taught me patience, cohabitation and how to love again,” she added.
Sadly, while in prison, Blessing said she lost her son, whom she said was suffering from chronic asthma.
Blessing was reportedly released on Saturday, October 24, after meeting her bail conditions.
The cases against her include allegations relating to property transactions and the alleged collection of money from members of the public in connection with claims that she was battling stage four breast cancer.
In one of the cancer-related cases, she was accused of obtaining about N13 million in donations after allegedly presenting falsified medical results. Other reported cases involve disputed property transactions, with sums of about N36 million and N69.15 million mentioned in separate proceedings.
