‘I am That Prodigal Child’, Blessing CEO Apologizes To Nigerians

0
Self-acclaimed relationship expert and social media influencer, Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, has tendered a public apology to Nigerians for her past remarks and conduct, saying she regrets commenting on other people’s pain without understanding what they went through.
In an emotional video posted on Instagram on Tuesday, November 3, days after her release from detention and following the death of her son, Brian, the controversial influencer described herself as broken and drained, saying she had learnt her lessons the hard way.
“I’m so sorry for talking about pain I’ve never experienced. I’m coming to realize that talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words,” she said.
Blessing CEO’s apology comes amid renewed scrutiny of her controversial public statements, including her comments during the domestic violence dispute between the late Bimbo Ogbonna and her husband, IVD, and her repeated criticism of May Edochie during her marital crisis with Yul Edochie.
She also faced widespread backlash in 2026 after claiming she had stage four breast cancer and soliciting donations from the public,  a fundraising appeal that turned controversial after questions were raised about the medical report she submitted. She later clarified that she did not have a confirmed stage four diagnosis.
In the video, Blessing CEO also paid tribute to her late son, whom she fondly called “Doom Doom,” saying she missed him dearly and was determined to make amends.
“I miss you, Brian. I miss you so much, and I promise to correct every wrong,” she said.
She revealed that her mother has been struggling to cope with the loss, noting that they sometimes hide from each other just to cry.
Describing her apology as a decision to retrace her steps, Blessing CEO likened herself to the biblical prodigal son, saying she was not ashamed to return home and start afresh.
“I’m not ashamed of coming back home. I just want to find my way back,” she added.
In a lengthy caption accompanying the video, she wrote:
“I am confused, my brain is so numb, the only thing I see is darkness, everywhere just blur for my eyes. Go ahead and mock me, yes throw my own words and mistakes to my face maybe I would learn that way.
Is this not hard enough, where everything no longer makes sense.
I am sorry for speaking about the pains I have never felt carelessly.
I am so sorry because I am realizing that talk is cheap but action is loud. I am only human, with blood flowing through my veins so I am bound to make mistakes, mistakes have a price and that is what I am paying for now.
With my tears, I am so broken to the point that I am losing myself. Pray for me because I am exhausted from praying by myself.
So I will say this over and over again, I am sorry to everyone I have hurt with words and actions, now I can feel every bit of your pain that I once mocked.
To those who still love me despite my mistakes I am sorry. To those who no longer love me because of my actions, I am sorry.
I am back home like the prodigal son in the Bible and I am not ashamed to come back home where I had abundance, instead of eating crumbs on the street.
I am that prodigal child who is not ashamed to make a U-turn from my lost direction. Let’s start all over again, now that I have learnt the lessons in a hard way.
To my son who passed, Dum Dum, as I call him, I miss you and I promise to correct every wrong to keep making you proud in heaven. Your brother misses you too including granny, your bestie Amara and daddy too. We miss you so much.
But no problem, I hope you are resting peacefully, while you watch us over here as a guardian angel.”

Iyba Osogbo, Taiwo Ajayi-Lycett honoured at AIFF 2026

It was an unforgettable night of reverence and emotion at the closing ceremony of the 23rd Abuja International Film Festival, as the spotlight shone brightly on two incomparable pillars of African dramatic arts.

The festival officially bestowed its highest honour, the Lifetime Achievement Award, upon Madam Grace Owoola Oyin-Adejobi popularly known as Iya Osogbo and veteran actress, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett, OON, celebrating their monumental contributions to theater, television, and film.

Also, the Industry Merit Award was conferred upon cinematic colossus, Pete Edochie, MON, globally celebrated for his definitive 1985 portrayal of Okonkwo in Things Fall Apart, alongside Otunba Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello), a pioneering force of the Yoruba cultural heritage and indigenous cinema.

Both patriarchs were specifically honoured for birthing a new generation of brilliant filmmakers and actors within their families, ensuring their artistic legacies remain multi-generational.

Born in 1930, Madam Grace Oyin-Adejobi’s spectacular career has spanned over seven decades. From her foundational days in 1953 with the Oyin Adejobi Theatre Company and iconic stage plays like Orogun Adedigba, to her cinematic breakout in the 1999 classic Eran Iya Osogbo, she has remained a vital beacon of cultural preservation. Alongside her, Dame Taiwo Ajai-Lycett, born in 1941, was celebrated as an internationally acclaimed matriarch who broke structural barriers on the British stage and screen in the 1960s, famously starring in the classic comedy Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em before returning to cement her legacy in modern Nollywood landmarks like Tinsel, King of Boys, and Elesin Oba.

Reflecting on the profound impact of these two icons, Festival Director Temitope Duker shared a deeply moving tribute during the presentation:

“To have both Iya Osogbo and Dame Taiwo Ajai-Lycett in our presence is a rare, historic privilege. These women did not just act; they carved out the very road that modern African cinema walks upon today. Madam Grace has preserved our traditional oral storytelling and moral artistry for over seventy years, while Dame Taiwo brought sophisticated, fiercely passionate, and feminist dimensions to the global stage. They are our living history, our national treasures, and our ageless cultural colossuses.” The double presentation brought the entire auditorium to a prolonged standing ovation, marking one of the most culturally significant milestones in the festival’s 23-year history.
