The New Afrika Shrine will reverberate Sunday night, as Felabration 2026, the annual festival honouring Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti comes to an end amid celebration.
The week-long festival, which kicked off on Monday, October 13, at the New Afrika Shrine in Ikeja, Lagos, will climax tomorrow with an unforgettable night of music, culture, and the spirit of Fela.
Themed “Who Are You?”, this year’s edition features art, fashion, dance and discussions, encouraging a new generation to connect with Fela’s ideas and enduring influence on Nigeria’s cultural history.
The festival, spread across several major Lagos hubs, dedicated four days to live music performances, bringing together artists and performers for concerts celebrating the legacy of the Afrobeat icon. The shows featured opening acts including Akin Ajayi, Ayorhskyfire, Femi G and Adeola Tenor, who entertained audiences as the celebration of Nigerian music and culture continued.
The performances provided a platform for the artistes to showcase their talents, adding to the atmosphere of the festival which honours Fela’s influence on music, culture and social commentary. Also featured was the Kings and Queens Art Academy, organised courtesy of Yeni Kuti, alongside other music acts.
Activities ahead of the grand finale include the Dress Fela fashion show scheduled for today, highlighting the continued influence of the musician’s distinctive style on contemporary fashion and creative expression.
As usual, the New Afrika Shrine in Ikeja, venue of the grand finale, will wear a festive look as Afrobeat enthusiasts throng the venue for the big night.
